Mr. Erin Zeqja, a MS candidate of Civil Engineering and Engineering Mechanics, was selected to receive the 2016 American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Geo-Institute Metropolitan Section Chapter Graduate Scholarship. This award recognizes excellence in graduate students studying geotechnical engineering at a university within the New York City Metropolitan Area.

Over the course of his studies, Erin has taken major courses in geotechnical engineering, such as geotechnical engineering fundamentals, geotechnical earthquake engineering, large-scale deep foundations, and geosynthetics and waste containment systems. Erin continuously applies the knowledge gained at Columbia University in professional practice, specializing in the field of geotechnical engineering and tunneling.

An honorarium will be presented at an award ceremony at the 40th Annual Metropolitan Section Geotechnical Seminar on May 12, 2016. The ASCE Geotechnical Group, originally the Soil Mechanics and Foundations Division, was created in 1962-1963 and was the first of the existing Met Section technical groups.
