STEM Education Research Journal Club
Tuesday,
October 3, 2017
1:00 PM - 2:00 PM
Are you interested in the research on teaching and learning and how to apply this research to your teaching practice? Join us for our STEM Education Research Journal Club where we will introduce you to the research on teaching in your discipline (also known as Discipline-Based Education Research, or DBER) and engage peer-reviewed articles through our group discussions and contributions to the journal club. Sessions will also focus on how we can use education research in our field and beyond to inform our own teaching practices and is open to graduate students and post-docs. Readings will be posted beforehand, and participants are expected to have read the papers in order to contribute to and learn from the journal club's discussions. A light lunch will be served.
The STEM Education Research Journal Club will meet from 1p-2p in 524 SW Mudd every other Tuesday starting in October: 10/3, 10/17, 10/31, 11/14, and 11/28. Please register so we can follow up with questions to and readings to consider, and accurately order food.
The readings for the first session (10/3) will be excerpts from Singer, et al, Discipline-Based Education Research: Understanding and Improving Learning in Undergraduate Science and Engineering, 2012. and from National Research Council, Scientific Research in Education (2002), both of which can be found here: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/0cxf5pwcdtoialo/AADF1Ki8xq4ENFftbg3nB0Tva?dl=0
This event is facilitated by Franziska Landes and Chris Chen, Center for Teaching and Learning.
