Title: "Experimental determination of the ion temperature in High-Energy-Density plasmas"
Abstract: We present experimental determination of the ion temperature in a neon-puff Z-pinch. The diagnostic method is based on the effect of ion coupling on the Stark line shapes. Discussed will be the spectroscopic measurements required and the data analysis. It was found that at stagnation the ion thermal energy is small compared to the imploding-plasma kinetic energy, where most of the latter is converted to hydro motion. The method here described can be applied to other highly non-uniform and transient high-energy-density plasmas, where realization of the previous approach developed (Kroupp et al, PRL, 2011) is unfeasible. Use of the data to investigate supersonic turbulence in the plasma is discussed.
