Eshan has co-authored three papers in the field of Human Computer Interaction, and currently conducts research with the Institute for Genomic Medicine at the Columbia Medical Center. Eshan’s current research project focuses on applying artificial intelligence to study the human genome, specifically for the purpose of finding genetic network targets that can be used for predicting pre-disease state in at-risk patients. Eshan also has research experience working with a neural computing lab, where he helped develop a virtual reality based brain computer interface system that can read neural inputs from human subjects and predict objects of interest in a three dimensional maze. Eshan hopes to continue research at the intersection of biology, computer science, and math in the future.

In addition to research, Eshan enjoys working on entrepreneurial projects. In his freshmen year at Columbia, he worked on a campus food-sharing app for students looking for alternative options to dining hall food and with his team, won second place at Columbia’s undergraduate fast-pitch competition and was selected as a finalist at the Columbia Venture Competition. He is now working with other Columbia students to develop an educational software platform to help teach computer literacy skills to students and adults in the Philippines. Eshan is always eager to work with new technologies and tackle challenging problems.

Last summer, Eshan interned at Facebook in Menlo Park, CA. There, he worked on developing full-stack product features for the Facebook Groups team. The previous summer, he worked at a financial technology startup in New York City where he worked on developing backend microservices, load testing tools, and programs to aid with SEO optimization. Eshan’s interests in industry range from consumer technology to financial tech to healthcare and AI.
