U.S. News and World Report has ranked Columbia Video Network (CVN) the top online graduate engineering program for veterans. The U.S. News rankings named CVN No. 1 in both student engagement and admissions selectivity, and offered high marks for faculty credentials and training, and student services and technology.

“Students who are service members bring unique insights and real-world experience to class,” said Nancy Rubin, executive director of CVN. “Veterans often put what they are learning to work immediately, and offer valuable feedback to classmates.”

The pioneering distance learning program, founded in 1986 using then-novel VHS tapes, has enabled thousands of civilian and military students from outside Morningside Heights to earn a quality Columbia education, benefiting from personal attention and flexible scheduling online, with no residency requirements.

“Veterans find that CVN is a good fit because we provide flexibility to study even if they are on rotating shifts or a deployment,” Rubin said.

CVN has excelled in other rankings by U.S. News, earning second best overall online graduate engineering program after topping the list last year. During the fall, spring, and summer semesters, it offers over 120 distinct courses. CVN students can enroll in one of 23 Master of Science programs, 20 certifications of professional achievement, and six EngScD programs.
