Columbia to Host NAE Symposium on “The Engineering in Medicine”
Columbia Engineering will host the National Academy of Engineering Regional Symposium April 22 in Low Library. The all-day symposium will bring together leading engineers, scientists, scholars, and researchers to discuss “The Engineering in Medicine.”
Open to the general public, the NAE Regional Symposium will kick off with welcome remarks by Engineering Dean Mary C. Boyce and NAE President C. D. Mote, Jr. Lee Goldman, executive vice president for health and biomedical sciences and dean of the faculties of health sciences and medicine at Columbia, is scheduled to deliver the opening address.
“Columbia Engineering is pleased to host this symposium at such an exciting time for the fields of engineering and medicine, “ said Dean Mary Boyce. “Research at the intersections of these two disciplines holds the promise for incredible advancements in patient care at all levels and we are looking forward to even closer collaborations and breakthrough discoveries. At this symposium, we will explore the National Academy of Engineering’s Grand Challenges that harness the resources of engineering and medicine to advance health informatics, engineer better medicines, and reverse-engineer the brain.”
Columbia faculty from the Engineering School, Arts & Sciences, and Columbia University Medical Center will discuss their specific research in four key areas: data and health, imaging and health, regenerative medicine, and neuroengineering. A panel discussion will follow the faculty presentations in each of the four areas.
