Xavier Intes, Department of Biomedical Engineering, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute
Mesoscopic and macroscopic diffuse optical imaging
Diffuse optical imaging techniques offer the unique advantage of high sensitivity as well as imaging of multiple biomarkers to enable the noninvasive functional and molecular investigation of biotissues. In this talk, Dr. Intes will present our efforts at RPI in establishing novel instrumental and theoretical approaches for fluorescence-based 3D imaging at the mesoscopic and macroscopic scale within the context of bioprinted tissues and in vivo drug delivery assessment. Additionally, Dr. Intes will report on our undertaking in establishing functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) as an objective tool to assess laparoscopic surgery skills within the framework of the Fundamentals of Laparoscopic Surgery program, which is a pre-requisite for certification in general surgery.
