Title: Developing Ultrasound Technologies for Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine

Abstract.
Developing new technologies that enable the repair or replacement of injured or diseased tissues is a major focus of regenerative medicine. This presentation will discuss several ultrasound technologies under development in our laboratories to guide tissue regeneration both in vitro and in vivo. The talk will review ongoing projects that employ ultrasound fields to spatially pattern cells within hydrogels, control collagen microstructure, or enhance healing of soft tissue wounds. The presentation will also highlight development of high-frequency, quantitative ultrasound techniques for characterizing the structural and material properties of engineered tissues. In summary, ultrasound technologies offer noninvasive approaches for characterizing engineered tissues, and controlling cell behaviors and extracellular matrix organization, and thus hold promise to advance tissue regeneration in vitro and in vivo.
