Heffner Hydrologic Lab

The Edward D. Heffner Laboratory of Hydrologic Research, on the lower level of Civil Engineering and Engineering Mechanic's Carleton Lab, was dedicated in late April. "We are dedicating more than a lab," said Mr. Heffner, "it is in the Heffner tradition. I am the third generation of engineers and it was always important to my family to give back. Now it is my turn."

The laboratory is set up to create computer models for predicting changes in water flow and pressure, experimenting to find a model that encourages microbes to more quickly eat soil contaminants, and to establish a protocol to enhance the mixing process. Prof. Rene Testa thanked Mr. Heffner, saying "While the location is low, its significance to the department is very high and it is an asset that will affect our present and future students."
