Columbia Startup Lab

Columbia Startup Lab-WeWork (CSL) is the Columbia University young-alumni co-working space located on the ground floor of the WeWork Soho West, located at 69 Charlton Street. It is a cross-school initiative between Columbia Entrepreneurship, the Columbia Law School, the Engineering School, Columbia College, and the School of International and Public Affairs.

CSL hosts 71 seats for graduating entrepreneurs across Columbia University, many of which are dedicated to Columbia Business School entrepreneurs. A competitive selection process takes place during the Spring semester. For more information, please visit this website.

CU Makerspace

The Columbia Makerspace is a place for all Columbia affiliated faculty, staff, post-docs, and students to develop their ideas into tangible items. It is located on the 12th floor of Mudd, right next to the elevators. Feel free to use it as a resource for projects, hobbies, building prototypes, or just trying something new.

To join as a user you just need to attend a short safety and orientation session and sign up. Regular users can then attend anytime that the space is open. This semester, orientations are run regularly at 11:00AM on each Monday and in the evening on most Thursdays. The CMS calendar lists open times and scheduled training. Feel free to also request an orientation for a group, class, special event, or your research group; this is easy for us to organize. The space is staffed by volunteers promoted from the user base. The CMS website has a list of equipment, including a range of 3D printers, a laser cutter, and a number of CNC tools for digital fabrication. It is also well equipped with tools (including a comprehensive set of bicycle repair tools) and supplies (solder, glue, 3D printer filament, etc).
