MTV's Bakish Gives Magill Lecture

Robert M. Bakish, president of MTV Networks International, gave the Magill Lecture in Science, Technology and the Arts at Reunion 2009. In his talk, “Creativity Commerce and Countries: A GLOCAL Model,” Bakish discussed the use of local resources and cutting-edge technology in a global business model.

Robert Bakish received an M.B.A. from the Columbia University Business School in 1989 and a B.S. in Operations Research from The Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science at Columbia University in 1985. 

At MTV, he oversees all MTV Networks operations outside of the United States of America, including the premier multimedia entertainment brands MTV: Music Television, VH1, Nickelodeon, TMF (The Music Factory), VIVA, Paramount Comedy and Game One, seen in 560 million households in 171 countries and 28 languages via 158 locally programmed and operated TV channels, 170 Web sites and 22 mobile TV services. 

Globally, MTV Networks International has partnerships with approximately 80 digital carriers and is the largest wireless provider of video on the handset worldwide. Broadband services such as MTV Overdrive and TurboNick are available to growing audiences around the world, while cross-platform brands like Flux in Japan and QOOB in Italy, provide original, locally produced entertainment, clips from MTVN’s global library and user-generated content.
