More Than a Walk in the Park for Engineering Grad Students

Civic-minded Columbia Engineering graduate students joined thousands of other volunteers to participate in New York Cares Day, an annual event held each spring to clean up city parks, gardens and public spaces.
The School’s students, and some staff, spent the day working at the Bartow-Pell Mansion in Pelham Bay Park in the Bronx, one of 80 sites where more than 5,000 volunteers worked on Saturday, April 21. The students cleaned up brush piles, composted in flower beds, and restored tulip beds, all in preparation for the open house scheduled May 4-6.
The students were organized and assisted at the work day by Jonathan Stark, assistant dean of Graduate Student and Post-Doctoral Affairs for Columbia Engineering, and Ellie Bastani, student affairs officer.
