Internships & Fellowships

Kenneth Cole Fellowship

This year Columbia Engineering enters the second year of our partnership with Columbia College and fashion designer Kenneth Cole to offer an exciting opportunity through which undergraduate students will have the opportunity to gain academic and practical insights to become community leaders and change agents.
The Kenneth Cole Community Engagement Program incorporates a unique combination of academic coursework, co-curricular activities, a summer internship, and a summer residential experience. During the academic year, Kenneth Cole Fellows will complete two academic courses and participate in a one-credit spring seminar series. The program culminates in a paid summer internship project within a local organization where students will work with community partners to build community capacity, address pressing local problems, encourage social action, and strengthen the local community. In the academic year 2010 – 2011 two Columbia Engineering students were selected as Kenneth Cole fellows and completed their summer internships with the Community League of the Heights and with the Mary Mitchell Family and Youth Center.

Online applications for the program will become available in mid-October. Hands-on engagement, leadership development, and community service can be valuable components of undergraduate education at Columbia. We are confident this program will enhance our tradition of making a difference in the local, national, and global communities to which we all belong. We thank Kenneth Cole for his continued sponsorship of this program and look forward to witnessing the inspiring work of our future Kenneth Cole Fellows.
