As an official kick-off to the new academic year, Dean Mary C. Boyce hosted a welcome reception for faculty Sept. 8 in Carleton Lounge. Having completed her inaugural year in the deanship, Boyce underscored the School’s positive momentum as it continues its yearlong 150th anniversary celebration and said the School is seeing “progress on every front,” including faculty hiring, building renovations and construction, and attracting the best and the brightest students.

“This is an incredible place to be right now,” she said, and emphasized the School’s ability over the last year to “attract top talent,” adding, “We’ve had a remarkable year of hiring.”

Boyce introduced the new faculty members. This year, the School added faculty that represent a wide range of research expertise in the areas of nanostructured biomaterials, applied and computational mathematics, counterparty and systemic risk, data science, and complex robotics, to name a few.

As part of the informal program, the dean debuted the 150th video that gives an in-depth look at the School’s rich history and pioneering achievements over the decades. She also reminded faculty of the additional events taking place this semester as part of the sesquicentennial celebration, including two final marquee events—an academic symposium on campus and the Founders Day Gala at Saint John the Divine, scheduled to take place November 14 and 15, respectively.
