A Big Thank You and a Huge Success

Columbia Engineering raised a total of $777,370 thanks to the generous donations by its enormously dedicated alumni, faculty, students, parents, staff, and friends who participated on Columbia Giving Day.

Columbia Giving Day, held on Oct. 24, was an online-based, University-wide fundraising event that encouraged alumni and friends to make a donation to their chosen Columbia school or program over a 24-hour period. In total, the University raised $6.8 million. Donations made to the Engineering School will be added to the School’s Engineering Fund, which supports financial aid, entrepreneurship, faculty support, research, and student life.

Columbia Giving Day also included several gift-matching opportunities. For its participation, the Engineering School received a matching bonus of nearly $50,000 from the University Trustees. In addition, a donor also won an extra $5,000 from the Trustees to add to her gift for the school as part of one of the hourly challenges during the day.

Fundraising efforts were done all online—through Facebook posts, Tweets, and emails. Nineteen Columbia schools and programs participated in Giving Day, amounting to more than 5,300 gifts made from 39 countries and all 50 states.

The School would like to extend its sincerest thanks to all those who participated in making Giving Day such a resounding success. These funds will continue to help Columbia Engineering change lives that change the world.
