Samuel K. Sia, assistant professor of biomedical engineering at Columbia Engineering, has developed an integrated microfluidic-based diagnostic device—a lab-on-a-chip—that can perform complex laboratory assays, and do so with such simplicity that these tests can be carried out in the most remote regions of the world. Reducing Nitrogen has Economic Benefits  
A new study co-authored by Earth and Environmental Engineering professor Kartik Chandran shows that reducing nitrogen pollution generated by wastewater treatment plants can come with "sizable" economic benefits. MORE

Prof. Yao Named Fulbright Scholar
Professor Y. Lawrence Yao has been awarded a Fulbright Scholar grant to collaborate on research on laser materials processing this fall at the Unversidad de Vigo in Spain and with colleagues in Germany. MORE

Chee Wei Wong, associate professor of mechanical engineering, has built optical nanostructures that makes it possible to engineer the index of refraction and fully control light dispersion. MORE


Dean Hosts Global Engineering Summit
Chief academic leaders of the world’s top engineering schools in India, China, and Brazil,  joined the U.S. Ivy League engineering deans in June at Columbia to discuss ways of fostering collaboration among the institutions. MORE


Class of ’84 Alum Remembered
Among the many people lost on Sept. 11, 2001 was Dan Bergstein, ’84. To honor Dan’s life, his former high school classmates will hold an event to raise money for a scholarship in his name to Columbia or Barnard. Join with other Columbia Engineering alumni in celebrating Dan’s life. MORE
