Alan Koolik

Alan Koolik is a junior from Boca Raton, Florida, who graduated from Pine Crest School.

Alan is excited to further pursue his interests at SEAS by exploring different disciplines of engineering and other areas of academia.

While at Pine Crest, Alan was a part of the Science Research Program and conducted cryptographic research through the Department of Mathematics at Florida Atlantic University. This research, regarding the applicability of the Diffie-Hellman key exchange to elliptic curve systems, was recognized at various state and national competitions, including the 2015 American Junior Academy of Science conference in San Jose, CA. Alan is also a member of the Engineers Without Borders; he traveled with the Sonoma County Professional Chapter several summers ago to the Peruvian Amazon in order to implement rainwater collection and purification systems in two small villages. He has continued his involvement with EWB by taking part in the Columbia chapter’s projects in Uganda.

Outside of academics, Alan is an avid fan of the arts and takes advantage of Columbia’s location and everything New York’s artistic scene has to offer, including theatre, opera, music, and more. He has produced theatre on campus, and is currently a co-producer of the hit show Puffs off-Broadway (puffstheplay.com) and the upcoming Broadway revival of Angels in America. Alan is also a trivia buff and placed second in the 2014 Jeopardy! Teen Tournament.
